In the south of Brazil, a horse is stranded on a rooftop; in the north, a dolphin is out of water, carried along the dry riverbed in search of water to avoid suffocation. These two emblematic images of this apocalyptic 2024 in Brazil leave no doubt: we are experiencing a climate emergency, and we need to act now!
In a year of glaring Climate Emergency, this 3rd edition of Vozes pela Ação Climática Justa, presents reports, stories, articles, art, and many ideas produced by local partners from all over the Legal Amazon, as well as the rest of Brazil and the Global South. These include solutions, denunciations, and analyses of the causes and effects of the climate emergency over the past year, from the perspective of partners in the Voices for Just Climate Action (VAC) programme.
The Ações em Rede (Network Actions) section includes 13 stories, such as that of the Varadouro Collective in Acre; the Tour Refloresta Já by Mídia Ninja; and COIAB’s REDD+ training programs. We also have Clima de Arte, showcasing activist art actions from our partners, and Xibé Climático, for you to enrich your knowledge about the climate. In the Opinion section, we feature articles on the aerial spraying of pesticides in Maranhão state, environmental racism in the Cerrado, and discussions on the climate catastrophe in the south of the country. The Vozes pelo Mundo section brings stories from Bolivia, Paraguay, Uganda, and Tunisia, as well as a special feature on memories from COP 28, gearing up for the upcoming 29th edition in Azerbaijan.
