Summary of LCOY Tunisia 2024 Outcomes

From 300 applications, 100 delegates participated in LCOY Tunisia, including 30 fully funded representatives from all Tunisian regions, ensuring diverse community perspectives. Panels featured activists, researchers, UNDP representatives, and YOUNGO’s focal point, offering insights on climate issues and youth-led policy contributions (75% women, 25% men). LCOY Tunisia 2024 focused on youth engagement, climate advocacy, and policy recommendations to bridge the gap between activism and decision-making. These contributions were submitted to Regional COY MENA and YOUNGO.

Youth & Climate Governance
  • Institutionalise youth representation in national and local climate committees.
  • Involve youth in monitoring Tunisia’s NDC and adaptation strategies.
  • Facilitate youth participation in COPs and international negotiations.
  • Expand capacity-building programs on climate policy and governance.
Climate Education & Media Engagement
  • Integrate climate education from primary school to university.
  • Develop educational materials in Arabic, French, English, and Amazigh.
  • Establish climate clubs, scholarships, and digital awareness campaigns.
  • Partner with influencers and cultural creators to mainstream climate discourse.
Adaptation & Resilience
  • Prioritise adaptation in Tunisia’s NDC & ensure inclusive participation in National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).
  • Support smallholder farmers in adopting climate-smart agriculture.
  • Promote water conservation, sustainable irrigation, and agroecology.
Climate Justice & Human Rights
  • Address women farmers’ health, safety, and land ownership challenges.
  • Tackle climate-induced migration through sustainable development strategies.
  • Improve children’s access to climate education and healthcare.
  • Recognise climate-related mental health issues and integrate them into public health policies.
Energy & Ecosystems
  • Invest in renewable energy innovation & energy storage.
  • Phase out fossil fuels while prioritising green infrastructure.
  • Implement large-scale ecosystem restoration projects and biodiversity conservation.

LCOY Tunisia 2024 emphasised youth as key climate actors, urging decision-makers to translate advocacy into policy and ensure inclusive, equitable climate action.
