Agents of Change Podcast: Meaningful youth participation at RCOY in Lusaka
During RCOY 2024 in Lusaka, Alynn and Lucy from Kenya shared their perspectives on meaningful youth participation. Here's a summary of their thoughts: Alynn emphasised that true youth involvement goes beyond tokenism. She said, "Meaningful participation means being included in decision-making processes at every level, from the grassroots to international negotiations. We don’t just want to be in the room; we want our voices heard and our ideas implemented." Lucy added that empowering young people with the right tools and knowledge is key to enabling effective participation. She stated, "Young people need access to resources, platforms, and mentorship to contribute effectively to climate solutions. It’s about collaboration, not isolation." Both emphasised the importance of youth-driven solutions, highlighting that young voices are not only relevant but crucial to addressing the global climate crisis.
