VCA Information session: Loss and Damage Finance

The recording for this information session is now available

In this session, speakers explored opportunities for civil society engagement on loss and damage finance and focused on these issues from climate-affected communities’ perspectives. In addition, this session aimed to inform the VCA network of opportunities to influence the loss and damage finance processes and kick-start the VCA engagement on L&D.

Experts on loss and damage engaged in the UNFCCC processes; affected community representatives; the global programme; and the VCA regional teams will be brought in to deliberate on the opportunities for influencing the UNFCCC process and develop VCA’s position on loss and damage.

A few of the critical issues and questions explored in this session were:

  1. What is loss and damage, and what are UNFCCC processes relating to loss and damage and opportunities for influencing the processes at UNFCCC?
  2. How do civil society frame loss and damage issues from climate-affected communities’ perspectives, and what are the current loss and damage responses?
  3. What is the status of the UNFCCC loss and damage funding arrangement discussion?

The information session was the first activity of the Global programme on loss and damage finance, and other activities will follow it to ensure the voice of climate-affected communities shape the loss and damage finance.
