VCA FEMINIST TRANSFORMATIONAL CLIMATE JUSTICE LEARNING SPACE

The AMwA partners in Kenya, which include Women Empowerment Link, Craw Trust, Siaya Muungano Network, and Lamu Women Alliance, organised a three-day learning event dubbed Feminist Transformational Climate Justice Learning Space. This learning event was significant, as it provided participants with a deeper understanding of the connections between gender and environmental challenges.

This initiative was supported by Akina Mama wa Afrika under the VCA programme and took place from 24 September to 26 September 2024, at the Kyaka Hotel in Machakos County.

A total of 44 participants attended, including 11 men and 32 women, representing all the VCA implementing counties. The primary goal of the learning space was to enhance the capacity of the VCA alliance and its partners in employing intersectional feminist approaches to climate justice and promoting a just climate transition.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in discussions on the following topics:

  • Personal development
  • Unpacking feminism and feminist theory
  • Understanding the climate crisis and the intersection of gender justice, economic justice and climate justice

This learning event was significant, as it provided participants with a deeper understanding of the connections between gender and environmental challenges. They gained insights into feminism as a structural analysis of the root causes of inequalities and acquired practical tools to advocate for gender equity in their respective communities.
