Sketchnoting: Crafting your narrative
Hivos
Sketchnoting workshops, conducted as part of the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) programme, are an innovative way of blending creativity with climate justice advocacy. The initiative began in September 2024 with an introductory session setting the stage for creatives, artists, and designers to embark on their sketchnoting journey.
Following this, participants have been engaged in ongoing online coaching sessions where they are not only becoming familiar with the sketchnoting technique but also learning about climate justice and the impactful stories of the VCA programme. The aim of the activity is to equip participants with the skills to transform these stories into engaging visual narratives that can resonate with a wider audience.
With support from the illustrator facilitator, the participants work on visualising seven impactful stories—six from local partners and one summarising the overall impact of the VCA programme. This hands-on process will lead to a collection of illustrated stories, effectively communicating the challenges and successes of the VCA’s climate justice interventions. These visuals will also play a key role in raising awareness and engaging new audiences, making the stories of climate justice accessible and impactful. By fostering new talent and empowering young creatives, this activity strengthens their advocacy and storytelling abilities, reinforcing the message of locally led climate solutions.
The activity started in September 2024 and will be concluded in November 2024 as a learning and storytelling journey that bring climate activists and artists together to foster climate advocacy using artistic approaches.
