NLGF Vitaleau project – Tunisia
The Vitaleau project, implemented in the Ouled Amor region, represents a transformative step towards addressing water scarcity and enhancing community resilience. Supported by the Arab Institute for Human Rights, WWF, and local partners, the project delivered 16 water tanks benefiting individual households and community facilities. This initiative addressed urgent needs and laid the foundation for long-term development.

Key Impacts
- Social Impact:
Families, predominantly women and children, now have safe and direct access to drinking water, reducing risks and improving living standards. This access fosters local solidarity and combats social inequalities. - Environmental Impact:
By adopting Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), the project encourages sustainable water management practices tailored to the region’s climatic conditions. - Economic Impact:
With the time previously spent fetching water now freed, families can engage in income-generating activities and education, particularly empowering rural women through Agricultural Development Groups.
Vitaleau Project: Building Skills
Challenges and Future Needs
Despite these successes, the poor state of the road network leading to Ouled Amor remains a significant barrier, hindering resource delivery and access to basic services. Improving infrastructure is critical to connecting isolated communities to economic opportunities and fostering sustainable development.
A Commitment to Change
The project’s achievements have significantly improved the quality of life for the region’s most vulnerable populations, delivering on its promises with transparency and dedication. As one resident noted:
“These tanks are changing our lives. We no longer have to walk kilometers in dangerous conditions to fetch water.”
