Nawaat festival #4: Day one

The first day of the fourth edition of the Nawaat Festival, held on September 27, 2024, marked a significant moment of creativity and artistic engagement. This event, also celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Nawaat, provided a platform for the dissemination of Innawaation projects, allowing incubated artists to showcase their works.

The public was able to discover a variety of captivating initiatives, such as “Crossing,” an artistic installation by Synda Jebali that traces the history and archive of dance in Tunisia. The theatrical reading “No Paradise Beneath Their Feet,” led by Mouna Ben Haj Zekri and Mai Choucri, highlighted the challenges faced by minority women, particularly regarding infertility and socio-economic and political issues. The short film “Decree 25.07” by Yassine Alouini addressed the theme of migration in Tunisia and the discrimination faced by sub-Saharan Africans.

The release of the art book “Heat, Hit,” signed by Ameni Ghimagi and Ilyes Louati, offers a fascinating dive into the world of graffiti in Tunisia. The day concluded with an engaged concert presented by Khémaiès Bahri and his group “Ouyoun el Kalem,” who delivered a vibrant performance combining voice and committed lyrics, paying tribute to all the figures who have contributed to the struggle for a better Tunisia.

This first day of the Nawaat Festival not only celebrated innovative artistic works but also honored two decades of struggles for freedom of expression and social justice, capturing the very essence of Nawaat, a space where creativity and engagement meet to amplify voices too often ignored.
