CHINYUNYU FARMERS PREDICTS HUNGER DUE TO SEVERE FLOODS

By Jubiel Zulu of local Zambia partner ZIIMA

Some farmers of Chinyunyu area in the Rufunsa District have predicted that the area will experience severe hunger due to floods that have destroyed crop fields.

Chinyunyu Alliance for Women Chairperson Prisca Mwansa says the reality of climate change has been felt through the torrential rains that the country has experienced with the season.

Ms Mwansa says the damage that the rains have caused is irreversible and will result in food insecurity. Speaking when Voices for Just Climate Action Partners toured the area, Ms Mwansa said the situation requires concerted efforts from various actors.

VCA is touring various districts which have been ravaged by floods to appreciate the challenges farmers are facing in order to design climate resilient solutions.
