New publication: Knowledge Brokering from the Global South: Mobilising Knowledge for Climate Advocacy

Knowledge brokering is an important strategy for climate advocacy, and knowledge brokers can serve as a bridge between diverse perspectives on climate change and amplifying the voices of marginalised communities. So far, perspectives on knowledge brokering have predominantly come from the Global North, with little attention to the experiences of organisations brokering knowledge in the Global South.

Biupe Innovators: Youth in Mukuru Taking Lead in Locally Led Climate Solutions

Biupe Innovators is a group located in the heart of Mukuru, one of the biggest informal settlements in Africa. Started in 2011 with only 63 members, it was certified in 2012 and now has 15 active members. Despite being a small group, Biupe is known for leading locally-led solutions in their community, and the group is involved in urban farming, poultry farming, waste management, advocacy for climate change, tree planting, and community cleanups.

It has been nearly two months since the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) at Dubai’s Expo City in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Expectations had been high ahead of COP28 on progress on negotiations on sustainable food systems, particularly as the UN Food Systems Summit, UN 2023 Water Conference and the COP28 Presidency had committed to achieve net-zero, nature-positive and resilient agri-food and water systems.
