Exchanging Experiences for Climate Governance Between Bolivia and Paraguay
In a joint effort to address the challenges of climate change in the Chaco region, the Plurinational Authority of Mother Earth (APMT) of Bolivia and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) of Paraguay have initiated an experience-sharing process. This collaboration, driven by Fundación Avina as part of the Voices for Climate Justice (VAC) initiative, seeks to optimise the implementation of climate commitments, such as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), by combining efforts to tackle the effects of climate change in the cross-border region in a coordinated manner.
The exchange between the two entities in Bolivia and Paraguay is an opportunity for both countries to strengthen their capacity to respond to climate change while fostering synergies between the State, civil society, and international cooperation. With a long-term vision, the goal is to establish a collaborative space that promotes peer-to-peer dialogue and knowledge management, contributing to the implementation of inclusive and sustainable climate mitigation and adaptation policies.
The first step toward this ambitious goal took place in August, with a virtual event that marked the beginning of exploring binational projects focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation in the Chaco biome. These initiatives become even more relevant considering the difficulty in accessing global climate finance and the need for long-term planning to address the effects of climate change in local communities.
