The JAMBOREE began with awards and appreciation to winners of environmentally themed competitions, exhibitions, and talk shows, the declaration of the main waste bank, and the declaration of the movement to reduce greenhouse gases in the context of controlling climate change, which was carried out at Bale Rame Sabilulungan, Bandung District. This event was attended by 1200 people, including environmental activists, activists, schools, and the general public, to appreciate and protect nature’s sustainability jointly.

The Voices For Just Climate Action (VCA) programme in Bandung District held a Community Talkshow to share VCA-Urban learning. The talk show was initiated by the Women Federation Dayeuhkolot (WFDK) and VCA Youth Daygreen (VYD) with the theme “Real Action by Heroes to Face the Climate Crisis”. In this community corner, participants shared experiences, ideas, and innovative solutions to overcome the impacts of climate change in everyday life. Discussions in the Community talk show allowed young people and women as climate change agents at the grassroots level to advocate and share climate learning.

Along with WFDK and VYD were speakers from the GEMES (see in bahasa: Gerakan Memilah Sampah) Community, and the VCA-Urban Team. The key message from the Community Corner Talkshow was that everyone has a role to play in fighting climate change, no matter how small the steps taken.

The Bandung District Government also held a Climate Exhibition. The exhibition showcased initiatives driven by local communities, environmental organisations, and local governments ranging from environmentally friendly product exhibitions, creative workshops on recycling, and renewable energy, and panel discussions on climate change. WFDK and VYD participated in the Climate Exhibition and displayed environmentally friendly and communication products through pamphlets, brochures, and leaflets.

The highlight of the Climate JAMBOREE was the climate declaration and joint commitment to the movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the context of controlling climate change. The joint declaration and commitment results from WFD and VYD advocacy to the Bandung District Government. The declaration is under the Bandung Regent’s Instruction Number 5 of 2023, which focuses on various strategic steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The important points of this declaration include real action to control climate change through implementing climate adaptation and mitigation through conservation of water resources, renewable energy, better waste management, increasing energy efficiency in various sectors, be it industry, transportation, or households, as well as campaigning and implementing an environmentally friendly and climate-conscious lifestyle. The Regent of Bandung also hopes for the commitment of all parties to actively participate in better environmental management and carry out penta-helix collaboration in dealing with the impacts of climate change and technological innovation to support sustainable economic growth. Through strong synergies, efforts to control climate change in Bandung District are hoped to run more effectively and achieve the expected results.

WFD and VYD also signed the declaration with the Regent of Bandung District. The involvement of women’s and youth organisations shows how important all levels of society are in efforts to control climate change. They are committed to continuing to voice the importance of real action in facing the climate crisis and being the main driver in environmentally friendly initiatives at the community level.

This declaration is a very important first step in Bandung District’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future. With the mutually agreed commitment, it is hoped that the people of Bandung District will experience real benefits from efforts to control climate change in health, environment, and social welfare.
